Some editors will use pan scan to fit the screen in to the 16:9 to the 4:3 screen. This is not good because it cuts of the edges of the screen and some things may be taking place in that area that will not be visible to the audience.
Both of the edges are cut out of a 16:9 to fit into a 4:3
Letter boxing gets a wide screen on to a small screen by fitting the whole image on but with a black box on top and bottom.
If you fit a 4:3 screen on a 16:9 screen the image becomes stretched
A good way of fitting it on to a 16:9 screen s by pillar boxing
British TV plays 25 images (frames) per second. You need this many to make the movement look smooth.
Pixels are the amount of dots in an image the more pixels the better the image
Resolution is how clear the image is. This depends on the amount of pixels
Still frame is each of the pictures to make a moving image
TV screen is made up of 100 tiny scan lines. This is transmitted to your television. The UK rule is 625 lines. Different countries use slightly different ‘standards’ or systems- with different numbers of lines per screen and different numbers of frames per second.

Future Technology
HDTV
HD TV refers to television having better quality (resolution) also referred to as digital TV. Its quality is a lot better than then traditional systems like standard TV’s or SDTV (standard-definition Television) and SD (secure digital). HD TV consists of one or two million pixels per frame this is about 5x greater then SD. HD is now digitally used, prior to this HD used analogue techniques but now editing and converting things to digital has become easier as compression was introduced, allowing us to make the format smaller and more portable.
There are 3 different types of HD. If your TV‘s at home are HD ready it uses Broadcast HD 720p. This is the lowest quality in HD and is manufactured to make normal TV look better so it is not the full HD. TV manufactures such as cables Virgin media and satellites SKY HD make and save a lot of money by doing this.
Most modern gadgets all in High Definition (HD) and soon in the feature they all will use HD. If you buy a modern gadget from the store it is most likely to be HD ready, from TV’s, Camcorders, computers even mobile phones everything is using HD technology in the modern world.
This means the future is in HD! The world at this current moment everything is shifting into HD. This will mean a rise in prices for equipment and gadgets, better quality and easier way to use things. This would be a lot better compared to the standard uses of video or TV as in HD the picture quality would be better also as time progresses and technology advances 3D or even 4D may be introduced to our homes as HD was.
Internet TV
Internet TV is a way for watching TV is an evolutional way to watch TV. Internet TV was introduced to the UK around 2005. It is a lot different to watching a normal television. Internet TV gives you more option on what to watch on the internet also it allows you to watch on demand. So if you have missed your favourite program or want to catch up from the beginning, internet TV allows you to do so.
Digital TV channels are linked in with internet TV. The main major channels on TV such as channel one which uses BBC iPlayer, Channel 4 which uses 4OD, Sky news even channels such as BET all have web pages for internet TV.
This brings a lot of benefits for the feature. In the future I think that channels would start to increase this means that we would not have to pay for TV licence because it will enable us to watch all the channels on the internet. It will save coasts and won’t take up as much space in our house holds. Also in the future our laptops or PCs’ will be more advanced making internet TV phenomenal.
3D/4D
3D is a motion picture (moving images) that creates the illusion of something appearing more real in front of you. It shows images in more depth and surfaced. It is made from stereoscopic photography, 3D imaging that is able to record three dimensional visual creating an illusion of depth to the still image. 3D (Three dimensional) films have been hitting our cinemas rapidly in the last five years posing as the most popular way to watch the latest films. 3D is now even popular in hospitals, more and more people want to get ultra sound in 3D to view there unborn babies. This gives them a clearer picture of what there child looks like.
4D is a little bit like 3D but more advanced. 4D is four dimensional effects created in the same ways as 3D but the illusion depth is a lot greater. 4D uses people’s senses as well to create the effect as if the views are actually first hand in the movie.
4D is the future for movies! 4D would put the views in the shoes of the actor this would be an evolutional way to watch movies. With 4D you are able to feel what the actor is feeling and the future may even use all 5 senses whilst watching the cinemas. This would be a huge upgrade to 3D and will change the experience of the cinemas for ever. So far 4D is only used at in some places and resorts such as Universal studios in America where there is 4D Shrek is shown.
The future may even bring 3D and 4D into our homes. In the UK we have already experienced 3D shown in our living rooms when channel 4 dedicated a whole week to 3D in our homes. The future may even bring 4D to our homes this would change home entertainment in an immense way.
Television VS Mobile phones
Smart phones have become everyone’s best friend in the current world. Every where you go it is the first gadget that everyone has. Smart phones come in different shapes and forms and there is a variety to pick from. Black berries to Samsungs, iPhones and HTC each phone varies in its own speciality, down falls and up points. A Smart phone is a mobile phone that has applications and offers advanced computing ability and connectivity than a normal standard phone.
Smart phones have a wide range of different qualities as it allows you to do so much more than a standard mobile phone does. Smart phones have different markets such as Aneroid, RIM, Apple, Windows mobile and many more which allows you to download and buy apps, allowing your phone to have computing ability. Applications like Black berry messenger makes smart phones more social and also social networks such as Facebook, Skype and twitter make smart phones better for socialising. This is also one of its top qualities. Smart phones are now even now have build in HD in the cameras and also gaming is in high definition.
Personally I think that Smart phones are the leading gadgets in technology at this current moment in time. Smart phones combine Television, internet and communication all together in one small compact stylish object. Smart phones allow you to take you world with you in a small portable object. The styles of the sort of smart phone you can purchase is up to you. Some are made with big screens such as Samsung galaxy S so that watching TV or YouTube on your phone is satisfactory. Some are designed with a key pad for business reasons such as Black berry so typing is made easier. There are many qualities in different types of smart phones.
Smart phones are going to make the future brighter, modern technology already has created so much applications and uses for smart phones. In the near time future it is going to be a lot better and advanced, more applications and better quality recording will be added. Smart phones have nearly covered the nation and soon everyone will be using a smart phone because it is the future!
